Most headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a factory UV coating. Sun, road salt and car washes wear that coating away, and the plastic turns yellow and hazy. The result looks tired and, more importantly, puts less light on the road.
How restoration works
The damaged outer layer is wet sanded in stages, then machine polished until the lens is clear again. The key final step is a UV-blocking sealant, which replaces the factory protection.
How long does it last?
With a proper UV sealant, typically one to two years. Restorations without a sealant often yellow again within months, which is why cheap kits disappoint.
When restoration is not enough
- Moisture or condensation inside the lens
- Cracks or chips in the plastic
- Damage on the inside surface of the lens
In those cases the housing needs replacing. We tell you before we start if that is the situation.
Quick tip
Park nose-away from the afternoon sun when you can, and add a ceramic topper to restored lenses for extra protection.
